Planning Your Estate
Do you need an estate plan? Which is better, a will or a trust? How do you avoid probate? What should you do when an elderly relative can no longer manage his/her affairs? This course will provide you with information to answer all of these questions and more in this general overview designed for the nonattorney. You will learn about the various methods of estate planning including wills, living trusts and joint ownership, along with a review of the advantages and disadvantages of each method. You will also learn about the probate process and the consequences of what can happen when you do not create a plan. The course will also cover preparing for incapacity and the use of powers of attorney, health care directives, conservatorship and guardianship. The instructor is an attorney in private practice in Torrance, California where he specializes in estate planning, probate and elder abuse.
